SWEET MILK BREAD: INGREDIENTS;
3 cups flour
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup milk
1/2 tsp salt
1 and 1/2 tbsp butter
1 tbsp yeast
1/2 tsp vinegar(acts as preservative)
1 egg
PROCEDURE;
In a half cup of warm water,dissolve sugar and yeast and let rest for 5 to 10 mins.
In a bowl,mix your flour,sugar and salt. Make a hole at the centre and pour in all your wet ingredients(i.e,egg,dissolved yeast/sugar mixture,milk (if you’re using liquid milk),vinegar) and mix to form a sticky dough.
Transfer the dough to your work surface and knead for about 2 to 4 mins then add butter and continue kneading until dough is elastic and non sticky,then transfer into a lightly oil greased bowl,cover with a cloth and place in a warm place for about 1 hour to enable it rise.
After that,with a fist,press the dough down to relieve some air,then transfer it again to your work surface and knead for about 5 mins,then,cut into desired shapes or fold tightly as you would a mat. Set in a warm place again for 30 minutes(for the second rise) before baking.
Bake for 25 to 30 mins,depending on your heat source. Bring down and coat with butter to give it a shiny and soft crust.
Disclaimer: don’t open the oven,until after about 20 mins.
2. Make sure the water you use for your yeast is not hot,but warm.
