THE ABC OF CLEARING DARK SPOTS AND HYPERPIGMENTATION – #Hyperpigmentation –

So many of us struggle with black spots either on our faces or bodies and it can be a nightmare to get rid off.

Many will use bleaching creams and bleaching agents and it will appear like it is lightening the area surrounding the black spots and making the spots more obvious or it lightens the area a bit and when you stop, it becomes even more darker and obvious.

Sit down let me breakdown the whole gist about dark spots and Hyperpigmentation.

You see, when there is a trauma to the skin in any way, be it you have acne, sustain bruises, pick your skin, anything that disturbs the skin in any way, the skin perceives it as an injury and swings into action to heal it.

When we have injury and it heals, it darkens yeah? It is not until you see blood before you conclude something is an injury, no, if you stay too long in the sun, the skin gets burnt and admit heals, it darkens, if you pick your pimples, it has become an injury, any form of trauma at all to the skin and it will be treated as an injury… Including mosquitoe bites, yeah!

The thing is, as black people (whether you are fair or not), we have excess melanin, melanin is the natural colour of varying degrees of black we have in our skin, some people are very black, some are chocolate, etc.

When there is an injury, part of the healing process is to send colour to the place to disguise the injury and because excess is usually sent, that area become darker.

Now to get rid of that colour externally is usually the issue as it’s not easy.

Many people will say they want DIY recipes to clear all their issues and they use turmeric for years and no show! Of course, there would be no show, even with potent products that work, you’ll have to be consistent for six months at least to see results, if you bleach it and stop, they will come back.

First off, you can’t avoid traumas to the skin, you could sustain injury, you can have mosquito bites, etc and you can’t stop your body from producing colour but here’s how to cope with the different types of spots and how to clear them.

Avoid picking your pimples, however tempting, please don’t pick it, the skin treats it like a bigger injury, so try the MBMB steaming technique to help decongest your pores, that way, the darkness that appears afterwards if any, DIY recipes can take care of it in a few weeks.

Dark spots caused by mosquito bites can be cleared with DIY recipes but dark spots caused by creams, picking pimples, actual injuries etc, you need a potent product like a lactic based serum or retinol cream.

Lactic acid helps to exfoliate and brighten the area gradually, fading the spots away, including retinol, it is a vitamin a based anti-aging cream that helps to speed up cell renewal on your skin, thus helping to take off the spots and revealing new skin.

For DIY recipe, try soaking orange peel powder in aloe gel plus crushed hibiscus flower or zobo leaves, turmeric and a pinch of kojic acid if you have it or licorice root powder.

Leave overnight and use the next day to gently scrub the area and do this thrice weekly and the actual spots will gradually fade away.

Orange peel is a natural form of citric acid and the ph of the skin is a bit acidic so this is perfect pairing and helps to fade the spots, zobo flower or hibiscus is exfoliating as well,

you only need a handful, aloe gel is richly hydrating and help to prevent dryness or further damage to the skin, turmeric, kojic or licorice have brightening properties, so altogether, they come to help kick the spots away.
